sinigang air fried wings

Sinigang Air Fried Chicken Wings

Sinigang air fried chicken wings are crispy chicken wings seasoned with sinigang powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and oil, then cooked in the air fryer. Instead of the usual saucy or fried chicken wings, this version has that familiar Filipino sinigang flavor. Think of it as sinigang and chicken wings having a very delicious baby.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lb chicken wings or drumettes
  • 1 ½ tablespoons sinigang powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ tablespoon olive oil

Method

  1. Preheat the air fryer. Set your air fryer to 400°F or use the wing mode if your air fryer has one.
  2. Make the seasoning mix. In a small bowl, combine the sinigang powder, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix well.
  3. Dry the chicken. Pat the chicken wings or drumettes dry with paper towels. This helps them crisp up better.
  4. Add the oil. Place the chicken in a bowl and toss with olive oil until lightly coated.
  5. Season the chicken. Sprinkle the sinigang seasoning mixture over the chicken and toss until every piece is evenly coated.
  6. Air fry the wings. Place the chicken in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook for 25 minutes.
  7. Flip halfway. Turn the wings halfway through cooking so both sides get crispy.
  8. Serve hot. Once the wings are cooked through and crispy, remove them from the air fryer and serve immediately.

Notes

For the best texture, make sure the chicken is dry before adding the oil and seasoning. Wet chicken will steam instead of crisp, and nobody wants soggy wings. Also, do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. If the wings are too close together, they will not crisp evenly. If needed, cook them in batches.
You can also adjust the amount of sinigang powder depending on how sour you want the wings. Start with 1 ½ tablespoons, then add a little more next time if you want that extra asim punch.
If your sinigang powder is already salty, do not add extra salt right away. Taste one wing after cooking first because some brands are saltier than others.
